World Environment Day Walkathon June 07, 2008

Dear All

Activities commemorating World Environment Day is one of the principle mediums for raising awareness of the need for sustainable environmental management and protection of the World’s natural resources. Every year on June 05, Dominica joins the rest of the International Community in this observance in hopes of enhancing political attention and directing public action.

Youth are an important instrument that can assist in bringing the message to the fore especially as present stakeholders and future managers of the environmental resources of the Nature Isle, Dominica. As such the National Association of Youth in Agriculture (NAYA) Inc. is partnering with the Dominica Youth Environment Organisation (DYEO) Inc. to organize a hike on June 07, 2008.

See attached flyer for more information.

Me and Waitukubuli

wrote this poem while i was at work one afternoon, jus thinking of how beautiful my country was but how the people of Dominica, the Nature Lsland dont fully appreciate what it is the country gives to us, a place of peace and serenity, hope everyone who reads it, enjoys and feels the closeness i have to my country through it.

Me and Waitukubuli
By Delroy Nesta Williams

I was born here
I didn’t choose her
But Waitukubuli wanted me
Showed me her treasures and pleasure
Today I can rant and rave with no measure
Fed me on fresh vegetables and fruits
I will never forget these roots

I’m not leaving her, no way
No other place can I stay
Where the grass is green, the water is clean
There’s no mirage, no reason to camouflage
On Diablotin I stood, I saw
A forest so lush on a land so pure, so young
Her waters like the blood running through my veins
Oh yes Dominica, my life sustains
And now, I want more, more, more

Heaven on Earth
Yes, Dominica, Land of my birth
Sadly, our people know not what you are worth
Sorry, my dear Mother
They refuse to see, refuse to understand
The gift you selflessly give, the value of this land

My heart is heavy laden
This load is not mine alone to bear
Will someone else sing my song?
The Nation needs to hear
Waitukubuli needs our voice
It’s her need but your choice

If I was

What started out as just a question to myself ended up being a very good poem, well at least to me it is, hope the hi5ers can appreciate my talents..If I was By Delroy Nester Williams
If I was oil
Would I power your world?
If I was wings
Would you be my bird?
If I could sing
Would you be my song?
If I was mistaken
Would you tell of my wrongs?
If I was water
Would I quench your thirst?
If I was a flower on a sunny day
As a bee, would you come my way?
If I was leading you on a moonlit night
Would you walk by faith and not by sight?
If I was a whisper in a rowdy crowd
Would my words feel like they were said out loud?
If my actions I brought not to the fore
Would my words still open your heart’s door?
What if I wasn’t me?
And you wasn’t you
Would you look at me then?
And still love me too
