i attended a workshop sometime last week about gender equality and mainstreaming and before stepping in, i remember thinking why women in my country always seem to be bickering about their rights when they are clear equals and sometimes even favoured in Dominica
But after attending the workshop and everything being explained and laid down in black and white, i now understand and have a greater appreciation for everything women. I look at the older women and my mother in a totally new light. For generations women have worked in undervalued, underpaid jobs and have been the backbone to the many economies of the world. We never even valued their contributions in the home and always sougt to look at development thru the eyes of the GDP, not seeing that women's contribution in the development of society by far outplayed the role of men. thanks again for that enlightenment and i will be attending the women's day rally and all women concert in Dominica today to show my support for the mothers, sisters, grandmothers, aunts, neices, friends and aquaintances. job well done ladies, i would support the push to make this day a public holiday within my country.
