Privilege is plentiful for wealthy Chinese

BEIJING -- Wang Quan, a 16-year-old in the Chinese city of Zhangzhou,
has a huge advantage over his fellow students in their high-school
exams. He's not smarter. He doesn't work any harder. But his father
is chairman of a company with $47-million in annual sales. So, under
an official government policy, he is entitled to bonus points on his
test scores.
It's a policy that infuriates his fellow students.
"It shows that you can buy the exam scores if you are rich," said
one, Lin Jing. "It is really unfair to the poor students, especially
those living in the poorer parts of the countryside."
For China's millionaires, this has been a year of special perks and
privileges, courtesy of their local governments.
