Me and Waitukubuli

wrote this poem while i was at work one afternoon, jus thinking of how beautiful my country was but how the people of Dominica, the Nature Lsland dont fully appreciate what it is the country gives to us, a place of peace and serenity, hope everyone who reads it, enjoys and feels the closeness i have to my country through it.

Me and Waitukubuli
By Delroy Nesta Williams

I was born here
I didn’t choose her
But Waitukubuli wanted me
Showed me her treasures and pleasure
Today I can rant and rave with no measure
Fed me on fresh vegetables and fruits
I will never forget these roots

I’m not leaving her, no way
No other place can I stay
Where the grass is green, the water is clean
There’s no mirage, no reason to camouflage
On Diablotin I stood, I saw
A forest so lush on a land so pure, so young
Her waters like the blood running through my veins
Oh yes Dominica, my life sustains
And now, I want more, more, more

Heaven on Earth
Yes, Dominica, Land of my birth
Sadly, our people know not what you are worth
Sorry, my dear Mother
They refuse to see, refuse to understand
The gift you selflessly give, the value of this land

My heart is heavy laden
This load is not mine alone to bear
Will someone else sing my song?
The Nation needs to hear
Waitukubuli needs our voice
It’s her need but your choice
